♡ The New Thing: Rimmel Salon Pro Nail Polish with Lycra

August 22, 2013

I've been meaning to try the Rimmel Salon Pro Polishes for a while, so when I saw them on a 'buy one get one half price' offer during a recent raid at Boots, they were in the basket before the boyfriend even had time to comment on my already overflowing nail polish stash (and yes, I really do need twenty different variations of pink!).

With a little bit of help from CND's Stickey Base Coat and Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat the Rimmel polishes are one of the longest lasting formula's I've tried. Around 4-5 days without chipping is pretty good going considering I usually manage to chip my polish after only two days. I'm a huge fan of the wide brush as well, making application pretty quick and easy, though do be prepared to apply three coats for full opacity. So far I own New Romantic, a pretty pale pink with barely there silver shimmer and Soul Session, a 'pinky' based nude, though I wouldn't be surprised if a few more of these found their way onto my tips soon!

The Rimmel Salon Pro Polishes retail for £4.49 and are available from most Rimmel Counters.

♡ Daily Haircare

August 15, 2013

As much as my eyes are always pealed for that one product that will solve every hair woe, I have acquired a few haircare staples. Despite not using much heat, having fine hair means there's always some form of battle with dry, frizzy or damaged ends. Aussie's Miracle Moist Shampoo and Conditioner has been my favorite for a couple of years now. Containing Macadamia Nut Oil, it leaves my hair clean and nourished without weighing it down. Despite trying many other shampoo and conditioners, many more expensive, I always come back to this, it just works so well with my hair (though I do have my eye on the L'oreal Ever Riche collection!).

For days when my hair needs a little bit more nourishment but I don't have the time for indulging in a deep treatment hair mask, I use the Dove Damage Solutions Intensive Repair Express Treatment Conditioner instead of my Aussie conditioner. Richer than a normal conditioner yet gentle enough to be used daily, this treatment works quickly whilst leaving hair feeling soft and healthy (and smelling amazing!). I've also used the Nourishing Oil Care version of this and find they work equally well.

After washing my hair I then apply either Kerastase Nutrive Nectar Thermique or Redken Extreme Anti-snap to protect against any heat styling. I can't decide which one I prefer so tend to alternate between them, though I would say the Kerastase is slightly more nourishing for dry hair.

The newest addiction to my routine is the Dove Nourishing Oil Care Leave-in Conditioning & Care Spray. Like all of the Dove range this smells amazing and works wonderfully, especially considering the low price. I spritz this all over my damp hair (avoiding the roots) for a little bit extra nourishment that doesn't weigh my hair down. It leaves my hair silky and banishes the majority of the frizz. I also use this on dry hair if it needs a little boost. As it's completely weightless it doesn't leave it at all sticky but restores moisture and adds shine.

To help reduce damage I religiously use my Tangle Teezer on both wet and dry hair before and after washing. This helps to get rid of any tangles without pain or damaging the hair as much as regular brushes can. I also have the compact version of this in my handbag for when i'm out and about. It glides through my hair easily and doesn't seem to yank too many strands out!

Do you have any haircare staples?

♡ The UK Arrival - Maybelline Baby Lips

August 12, 2013

After a long wait, Maybelline Babylips have finally make an appearance in the UK. Housed within colourful packaging and retailing for only £2.99 each, these new balms are a fun and youthful addition. For such an inexpensive product the ingredients are pretty substantial as all contain vitamin E, honey, shea butter and aloe. As a result these balms are smooth to apply and work wonders as a quick fix for dry lips. However, as they all also contain petroleum, once the lip balm wears off your lips, so do the effects. Like with most petroleum based products, these lean more towards the type of balm that can dry your lips out further, though unless you have badly chapped lips, I haven't found this too much of a problem.

Cherry Me | Hydrate | Peach kiss
Currently, there are 6 Baby Lips available in the UK, 3 clear, (all containing SPF), and 3 tinted. The tint is however very sheer, I've found Peach Kiss to be hardly detectable on my lips, though Cherry Me does give a nice wash of colour that perks up my lips just enough, whilst still looking natural. They also all smell quite nice which makes them just that little bit more fun to apply. As the names suggest, Cherry Me is cherry scented, Peach Kiss is peach scented and the clear Hydrate is scented with Lemon and Basil.

If i'm honest, I won't be declaring Maybelline's Baby Lips one of my favorite lip balms anytime soon, though the light tint and sweet fruity scents makes them a welcome addition to my stash and a great product to throw in your bag or pocket for a quick fix.

Have you tried any of the Baby Lips yet? What do you think?

♡ The Everyday Face

August 09, 2013

My everyday face at the moment consists of a handful of products that require minimum effort and time, yet still create a natural base that lasts well throughout the day.

Starting with Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (review here), I use my fingers to blend it seamlessly into my skin for an almost undetectable finish without compromising on coverage. To cover dark circles and any remaining redness I use the Collection 2000 illuminating concealer which is perfect for me but may be a bit too sheer for those wanting higher coverage. To add a healthy glow I've then been reaching for the Bourjois Cream Blush in 03 Rose Tender (review here) which leaves a soft shimmer finish negating the need for highlighter.

For my eyes I always start with Nars' Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base to prevent creasing throughout the day before blending Maybelline's Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze over the entire lid. I've been addicted to this recently as it's so easy to apply yet there's something about the bronze colour that makes it look like a lot more effort was required. I then add a few lashings of my favorite mascara, L'oreal Volume Million Lashes, which adds just the right amount of volume and length without smudging throughout the day. Finally, a swipe of Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 05 Candy Shimmer leaves a gorgeous tint of coral whilst keeping my lips moisturized.

Easy Peasy

♡ July Favorites

August 05, 2013

July has been a great month, not only has the weather in the UK been exceptional, but I've also discovered a handful of products that I've fallen head over heels for.

1. Dove Nourishing oil care leave-in conditioning and care spray
I've been using this spray for 3 weeks now and I am completely in love. It can be used on either dry or wet hair and I've found it works wonderfully on both. I generally spray this into damp hair after washing to help de-tangle and when dried I find my hair is left really smooth and virtually frizz free. Even on my fine hair this doesn't weigh it down or make it at all greasy. It also smells incredible, I just can't get enough of this stuff. For only £3.59 I can't recommend this enough (and it's currently half price at Boots).

2. Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayon in Peach on the Beach
As evident from the battered packaging, I've been using this non stop recently. The formula is amazing, it can be built up for more of an intense look or applied lightly for quite a natural hint of coral. It's also quite glossy without being at all sticky. With added spf 15 it's also been perfect for the heatwave.

3. Bourjois Magic Nail Polish Remover
Despite hearing endless hype surrounding this product i never really believed that it would work. It takes a little bit longer than 1 second but this stuff is amazing and is definitely quicker than using normal nail polish remover and cotton wool. The scent is also a lot better than normal remover, quite sweet with a hint of vanilla. Overall, it's made the whole process a lot more enjoyable and I will definitely repurchase.

4. Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze
This one is a bit of a re-discovery (as you can most likely tell by the packaging!) as I've had it for quite a long time. With the recent heat I haven't been wanting to wear much make-up, especially not eye shadow, though this is perfect for a quick and effortless wash of colour that doesn't smudge or crease despite the temperature. The bronze colour is also gorgeous, it can be layered for quite an intense look but I prefer adding a small amount and blending it out for a more natural daytime look.

5. Kiehl's Creme de Corps Body Butter
I've been using this twice a week as an intense treatment to nourish my skin and keep it in good condition. It feels so luxurious and smells amazing. Full review here.
